Ever since I was a kid I have loved movies. There’s something about the suspension of disbelief in a ridiculous action movie, the seemingly spontaneous musical numbers, the grand romantic gestures (that never happen in real life), or the way you feel when you watch a movie that actually resonates with your real life. These wonderful images can make you laugh, sob, scare the bejeezus out of you or actually make you contemplate the way you live your life – they can be powerful stuff.
My love affair with film stemmed from watching old John Wayne movies with my dad Rocco or listening to him recite lines from Dirty Harry movies:
“Do you feel lucky punk? Well, do ya?”
I also remember watching midday movies when I was at home from school like Sailor Beware starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis and loving the lack of physical colour, but the multitude of personality it still emanated. I remember seeing The Wizard of Oz for the first time and just being so in awe of its wonder.
Well now, as a 36 year old woman I decided to put my love of movies and writing together.
Since October 2010 I have written for various publications such as DB Magazine and Glam Adelaide. The stuff I write is mostly movie reviews, but occasionally it’s a music interview or a show review as well. I’ve also written a stack of other published articles for NovaFM, corporate businesses such as Novita Children’s Services and so forth.
I recently completed my thesis and graduated with a Masters in Journalism at the University of South Australia. I work full time at the Adelaide City Council as the Editorial Consultant for the Design + Strategy team, having just completed a major project called The Adelaide Design Manual. I wrote all the content for the manual itself and the website, sourcing all the creative and images, working with technical experts in Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Web Design and Graphic Design to manage the creation of the project and launch it on 25 February 2016.
Basically I love to write and I’m a great communicator, so this blog is for all the things I love to write about, located in one spot for all the world to see, read and discuss.
